I've been uploading video all day, and now when i try and do it, all I get is a blue screen or the occasional frozen image with half of the screen as black bars. Any suggestions? Do i simply need to clean the heads? and if so, can I just buy a head cleaner ar meijer or something?

First off, you are trying to "upload" video or capture it into your NLE via 1394 from your camera?

If it is a capture from the camera, can you play the video on the camera without a problem. If you can, then its not a cleaning issue. By the way, don't just drop any cleaning tape into a DVX (assuming that is what you are using) you can do more harm than good.

I little more information might be helpful.

sorry. I'm trying to capture footage. but i can't get any playback on the DVX in general. The camera is only a month old.

OK, this may be a real problem.

First off, do you have access to any other DV camcorder or deck? If yes, then I would
recommend playing the tape(s) in question on that device and verify that it is a good tape.

Second, are you certain that it isn't something like a low battery condition?

Third, you may want to try a hardware reset on the camera. Don't do this until you have checked both previous suggestions first.

Report back your findings and lets see where this leads.

battery is fully charged and i have tried multiple tapes. I am rather confused due to the fact that I have treated my DVX with extreme care. I'll mess around a bit more and then perhaps settle on a hardware reset. thanks... if not i'll find an authorized panny dealer. How does a warranty usually work? I bought from EVS in mid august.

Just to be certain, when you try to play the tape in the DVX it is in VCR and not Camera mode? If it isn't, then put it into VCR mode and start over.

For now, I wouldn't recommend using a "tape cleaner".

To accomplish a hardware reset, you need to use a small diameter tool to depress the "Reset" button. This button is located under the flip out LCD screen directly next to the Shutter Speed button. Power the camera on and then press the Reset button. If this fails to resolve the problem, contact Panasonic and convey the problem and remedies that you have attempted.

How many hours on this machine? Since you are using DVX as playback also, and you have been loading tapes all day, I am guessing it might be quite a few. What kinds of tape have you used in the DVX?
