no live output via component

I can play footage recorded to tape (HDV720p30), but I can't view live images via the component outputs.

My TV only handles 1080i so I have the HDV playback setting to upconvert the 720p signal to 1080i.

Does the camera upconvert the live signal to 1080i or is this only done on tape playback?
