FEATURE: NO GREATER LOVE - Official Thread - Feature Film

Things are looking really good. I'm hoping someone will do exceedingly above and beyond what you think can be done with this project.

Brandon, I just saw the teaser, though it is not my favorite genre, but I must say that I am impressed! All the best with the project! :)

San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival

San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival

The largest Christian film festival just wrapped up this weekend. www.independentchristianfilms.com Sadly NGL was not there, we didn't have a finished cut in time. Our friends over at Sherwood Pictures won Best Feature for their movie FIREPROOF. We want to offer them our congratulations!

With all the hype around FP I think that was decided a long time ago. I can't wait until you guys set it out. I keep hearing about all these films, LOL.

Latest Update

Latest Update

Not a ton of news to report right now... we're working on getting some "press/promo" kits together for the film, and hopefully it's release soon... (more details on that later)...

For now... here is our Behind the Scenes look, recut, with new music as well... enjoy.

Wow Brandon. This is really looking great! Congrats on all the hard work and this amazing film you and the rest of your crew have created. Looking forward to the release!

A special BTS clip for DVXuser

A special BTS clip for DVXuser

Hey guys... since this is a technical site... I thought you might enjoy this little BTS clip regarding the look of the film...

Thanks for posting both these clips Brandon. I would've never known what the whole 35mm lens adapter was all about if not for this little clip.

So it's about fixing the focus at a desired distance. Wow! You're absolutely right; that's why I could never understand video camera focus before; it kept changing even when I had the focus on MANUAL!

So the 35mm lens adapter doesn't let the focus wander all over the place.

And another thing I'd noticed but could never understand. With film when the light changes in a shot, the exposure level stays the same, so the image looks lighter and darker.

With video (whether analog or digital) no matter what you set the exposure on, the video image cannot maintain the exposure without getting blown out or grainy uncontrollably. Here again, the 35mm lens adapter on a digital camera keeps the digital image muted, as it were, and within safe limits, but especially steady like a film image.

Thanks again. The differences in the two technologies are very subtle and hard to describe, but this movie clip helped me get a handle on it. Now I know why it's so frustrating to shoot with digital cameras, even though they are so much easier to "just shoot" with them :-)

You know every time i watch your film then im more amazed especially if i look at other hvx footage with 35mm adapters here on forums and i was asking once about shutter speed used for most shots but i dont know maybe you dont remember the settings right now and what i want to ask since i dont have HVX is... can you change shutter settings freely from 1/24 to 1/250 ? Like lets say 1/26 or 1/53 ,1/54 ,1/55 etc ? Or you have only presets with shutter speeds like on most camcorders ? Ive seen a lot 35mm adapters footage but having 35mm adapter wont give you of course believable film look with regular shutter speeds on camcorders and i really like to go back and see your trailer from time to time to just look how good it looks, it stands out from 90% of the footage that ive seen so far with 35mm adapters. So its really much. Its amazing so far for me and film is not really completely in my type but i really like how it looks.
I trying to browse here threads and look for trailers with more footage from hvx's and dvx's to see how it looks technically but its quite hard to find the actual threads with trailers and footage.
You are here long so could you reccomend something to watch here on forums ?

I think i found it , its the synchro scan option which lets you to adjust shutter angle and it changes how sensors are capturing the motion so it looks different but there is syncro scan in hvx and dvx and im not sure if you can change to your own numbers in dvx ,manual says you can choose your own shutter speed from 1/24 and higher without using presets but in dvx there are presets for synchro scan... thats not nice if its true.

We didn't use a synchro scan shutter and shoot at some odd interval with this piece. It's all either 1/60 or 1/48 shutter for anything regular speed, and some of the overcrank footage is 120 shutter.

*Clarification... 1/48 shooting at 180 degrees I believe since there is no selection for 1/48 on an HVX; but it's technically 1/48. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here... I just can't recall seeing an option for 1/48 on an HVX. But otherwise, we didn't adjust the synchro shutter to some other number, it was always kept at 180 when used.

Many exterior scenes where done at 1/60... I tend that favor that a little more than 1/48 (180) which sometimes is too blurry for my taste coupled with a 35 adapter which already softens your image...

best filmic shot is i think with the black man cause when you look at the plants on the side and how wind is moving them , it looks so filmic.
HV20 have shutter 1/48 and 1/60 too but i never seen something like this on it and even something close so where is the magic ? It still might be shutter 1/48 on hvx and HV20 but it doesnt mean that panasonic and canon use exactly the same techniques to get the shutter speed and this might be the reason.
So looks like i would have to try myself to see ,cause its hard to believe that its regular 1/48 ,footage looks amazing in some scenes.

02/04/2009 Update

02/04/2009 Update

Well... here we go... into the final stretch of post-production!

Over the next three weeks we'll be working with Kappa Studios in Burbank on the final cut of NGL. We've made some small changes here based on some of the comments we had at the focus groups. Now we'll be taking the film into Kappa for the final color grading, and sound mix! It is so exciting to be at this step! I am excited to be able to see the film in it's "full glory" in less than a month! :D

Hopefully I'll have some color graded grabs to show you in time!
