no future to stop motion?

hey, i was thinking about stop motion type movies, like james and the giant peach, or the nightmare before christmas. they arent really around anymore, is that because 3d animation has taken over? if someone were to make another stop motion, do you think it would be well recieved, or would the public wonder why 3d was not used?

I think stop-motion looks cool. I don't think it would matter or the public would reject a movie if it was stop-motion as long as the story was good and well executed.

I think it would actually be refreshing to see a movie like that because there are so many out there right now that rely on 3D animaition.

I don't think the 'public' cares, and in most cases I don't think they know the difference.
I think if it has a good story and is engaging - they will like it.

hmm, thanks. i was thinking the same. i asked around and some people said, it looks retro, but i think that adds a dimension that 3d cant begin to touch on. it seems more animated and intriguing.

...and they all tend to have the same look - the same way graphics have that 'photoshop' look.

I agree its all in the execution and the great advantage is (IF you execute it right) is that your 'look' is 100% unique since it is not done from the same tools everyone else uses.

Its like painting and drawing by hand vs. computer graphics - in the hands of a master NOTHING in computers touches painting.

That is just as laborious as regular 2d cartoon animation. Which is what the new simpons movie came out on. They even used 2d as a selling point for the movie if you watch some of the trailers.

Wallace and Grommet are still around aren't they?

how was that 1912 stop motion done? is it possible to record regularly and just drop frames sequentially?
