No exFat formatting on GH2

I just got a new SDXC card in. It works great on the GH2 and the Canon 550D. I can now record up to 29.59 Min. on the 550D.

But if I format it in the GH2, it formats to Fat32, not exFat which allows larger files than 2 Gigs. In the 550D it is formatted exFat.

What if I'm in the field and would like to format the SDXC card? Would I have to bring the 550D or a laptop to perform that task? Or am I overseeing something in the menu of the GH2?

As far as I know, if you're recording AVC, then the stream parses into multiple files and continues recording - unless you're a UK PAL user where there's an electronic limit. I think MJPEG may have limits as it's a self contained file wrapper.

I am a PAL user. So my films are limited to 29.59 min. duration due to tax reasons.:( I understand, that the GH2 records continuosly to several file in the Fat32 file system. But why, if I already spent the extra money on a SDXC card, shouldn't I be using the superior format? (it is also faster)
