No eSATA on 13" Macbook Pro - what's the optimal harddrive solution?

so basically i can only use my 13" MacBookPro for logging and transfer and initial timeline building but once I need to start popping in chromakey and grading i'm going to need to move over to a MacPro/Raid setup..

time to open up the old checkbook again..geeze..

Not a problem - DVCProHD 1080 footage is indeed 1280x1080....
What is this? NTSC? In PAL land its 1440x1080...

Back on topic: I´d transcode to ProRes via Log and Transfer. Save to an external GRaid FW800. And then edit away.

Still, this thread got me thinking about getting a 15" again...:embarasse

Ok, since you seem to know so much what is the OP's problem then?
Wow, chill, dude!

RMI - sadly, no laptop will be great at this point for heavy HD processing. However, as an intermediate, some have said that the recent quad-core iMacs are not too shabby - not a Mac Pro, but a lot better than the 'Books. Although, again, expansion - especially external HD expansion - is not great. But it does seem like your current bottleneck is processor power, not drive throughput.

I wouldn't buy any MacBook/Pro for editing except the ones with ExpressCard. Without it, the expansion possibilities and especially the HD situation is far too limited (in addition to the limited processor power).

A MacPro - with the nice, easily swappable internal HDs - in many situations will pay for itself quickly by allowing you to buy bare drives instead of external drives!
