Hi,
I just finished building an editing system for Avid Media Composer 4.0.2.
Intel i7 920
V1AX Thermaltake cooler
Asus PT6
12GB Corsair 1600 PNY
Nvidia Quadro FX 3800
Coolermaster HAF 932
1TB Seagate Barracuda (Boot Drive)
2x1.5TB Seagate Barracuda Raid0 (Video Drive)
1.5TB Seagate (Backup) Pyro PVC-316 Firewire Pioneer Blu-Ray BDR2203 disk burner
PC Power and Cooling 860 Watt
Vista Business 64 bit
I loaded in Avid and the system seems to work very well with one big exception - I can't digitize from my DV deck. The computer recognizes my JVC BR DV3000 and I can control the deck and digitize footage with Windows Movie Maker so my firewire card (the Avid required Pyro card) is working. When I go to Capture in Avid I get the dreaded "No Deck" every time. I've set the deck to JVC BR DV3000U (although my deck is not a U model) and to generic, but that didn't work.
Based on this problem on other posts around the net I figured out that I need to update the DVBuffers in Avid. The problem is, when I do the suggested fix in the Avid readme:
1. Go to Program Files\Common Files\Avid.
2. Right click Dvbuffers.ax.
3. Select Open.
4. Choose to select the program from a list and click OK.
5. Browse to windows/system32.
6. Select regsvr32.exe.
But when I browse in step five nothing resembling windows/system32 shows up.
I checked some other sites and tried another suggestion - type in "regsvr32 DVBuffers.ax "and run it. It told me that this file was not compatible with a 64bit system. I suspect 64bit Vista is the problem, but since it's certified by Avid, there must be a way around this.
Has someone out there actually digitized something on their Media Composer 4 system with Vista Business 64 bit from a DV deck? If so, what did you do to update the firewire card or Avid internally to work in a 64bit environment? I went with Vista 64 to get the full value of my 12GB memory, but I'm beginning to wonder if I’ve made a very expensive mistake.
Any help on this problem would be welcome.
