no continuous numbering? recommend a batch renaming tool (PC)?

Rename Prefix.workflow for MAC OS X (just right click on any folder)
This thread got me thinking about how to do this using Automator for Mac OS X. I've created an Automator workflow file which should go in the path:
username/library/workflows/applications/finder

Once its there, you should be able to right click on any folder and a pop up will appear asking what pre-fix you want to add to all file names within that folder and all sub-folders. Enjoy and let me know how it works.

"Rename Prefix.workflow" file is zipped:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0DZJPMKY

Thanks for doing this, but I tried this tool and it only renames to the first level of whatever is directly inside the chosen folder. So, in order to rename the clips, which folder should one choose in the ABSURD structure of the PRIVATE folder off the camera?

hi all, ive only recently noticed that when formatting my gh1 the file name returns to 00000.mts. I can see this being a problem when using multiple cards at a wedding.
Alternatively taking a tip for the Canon DSLRs that I saw from Shane Hurlburt.

Record a brief clip just for a second or so. Take the card out of the camera & pop it in a card reader & rename the file on the card from e.g. 00000.MTS to 10000.MTS. Pop the card back in the camera & the next clip to be recorded will be named 10001.MTS. If you are shooting a wedding or other event with multiple cameras prepare the cards for Camera 1 as 10000.MTS then for Camera 2 start the filenames at 20000.MTS etc

I quickly checked & this appears to work OK but the file layout on the GH2's cards is far more complex than the Canon DSLR's so there may be some unforeseen issue with only changing the filename of the .MTS file & nothing else.

I use Final Cut's Log & Transfer to import footage so the actual filename of the clip isn't very important but it could be useful when you come back from a gig with a handful of cards to be able to identify the clips by which camera shot what footage in which order.
