No budget but need a crew

I can't do it all myself. When I started purchasing some basic gear I thought I could be a one-man band, but I realize now that's impossible.

I've got a short narrative script (a 5-7 minute comedy) and want to make the video. At the very least I need 2-3 actors and most importantly I realize I need a producer (with a lot of hyphenations, i.e., possibly including: -catering coordinator, -assistant sound person, -AD, -release coordinator, -assistant gaffer, etc.)

So, I probably need a crew to do/to assist with lighting and sound. But I realize the producer could be key.

This is a no-budget project. Where do I find a producer? Local community college? Any other suggestions?

If you have personal contacts in the industry, this is when you would mine them. If not, this is a Craig's List type of gig. If you're anywhere near a college with a film program, you could contact them about putting the word out.

You CAN do it yourself... many here do! (myself included)
It's a lot of work, but with proper planning & organization you can get a film made. Talk a few friends into helping.

I've been looking in my area for the past 4 years...local film group, colleges, Craigslist, theatre groups... lots of people talk a good game, but never come through.
The best thing you could do is get some funds together if you believe in your film, as soon as you offer paying jobs, there's no lack of help!

Your responses have shown me two things: (1) I need to become a Senior Member and (2) I need to make a Profile Picture! :D

Seriously, it seems that my situation is pretty common. I sat down with my short script (still in the tuning stage) and started to do a detailed scene breakdown. I looked at the exact number of actors, extras, props, scenes, shots, lights, locations, etc. Wow. There is a lot to do. (I've not forgotten audio. It's omitted mainly because I've written the script so that all of the dialog is actually a monolog (a lot of it will be voice over, but the monolog will require a good actor to carry it on its own). All the action has no dialog. There will be sound effects and music, but none of that involves the on-screen talent during shooting.)

In the next month, I'm planning to attend a local filmmaker/editor user group meeting and I have located a few theater departments at local colleges. I guess I'll take a two-prong approach, for now, at least: Look for an assistant who can, with luck, wear a few hats and put a plan together so that I could do it by myself. Creating the to-do list of non-shooting related items (Finding locations, getting releases, casting, planning transportation, planning catering, etc.) is necessary whether I get help or not. In fact, all of the real time production items need to be detailed anyway. If I find some help - of whatever sort - I will be able to share the task list.

Thank you.

You have to let us know where you are first of all. If you are in the tristate area (Westchester, NYC, etc) there are lots of resources. Further upstate is a different matter.

Dad, I am from Manhattan, but no longer in there. Alas, I'm in northern California's central valley, in the Sacramento area. Sacramento is one of those odd places that have merit mainly because you're two hours or so from SF, two hours or so from the wine regions of Napa, Sonoma, and Amador, and two hours or so from Tahoe or Reno. So, basically, it's the middle of nowhere. Thank you for thinking of me, though.
