no audio signal

My camera is not getting any audio signal to record with the mic it comes with I also tried hooking up an external mic to both inputs and nothing yet. Any suggestions?
 
I tried every combination with the ones in the front and on the side by the viewfinder. Any options in the menu I might be missing and has this happened to anyone else?
 
so you don't see any audio level go up or down on the lcd?
if you are getting audio you should see the audio level.
did you try increasing the volume more?

I'm not too good with audio so if that doesn't work I don't know what else to do....good luck
 
Thanks for the suggestions but the audio dials were the first things that I switched around.

There is no signal whatsoever, this is really weird because I kept the camera safely at home.
