No audio on S-video input

I am trying record from a Hi-8 camera to my HVX tape via S-video. The video is recorded fine but no audio. I thought the Hi-8 camera was not sending audio but when I connect a VCR, the HVX records video but again no audio. If I use composite from VCR it works fine. The problem is that the Hi-8 Camera has no composite.
Is there some option in the HVX that I need to select to get the audio into the camera?
 
S-Video is only a video signal, no audio. Do you have composite audio inputs (usually RCA white and red plugs) on your Hi-8 camera? You'd want to use those if you do.
 
wow, I always thought that s-video had audio and video. I assumed this because the connector has four pins. I always thought the outside of the jack plus two of the pins were stereo audio and the other two pins were composite video. I have a lot to learn... Thanks again...
