No audio on playback

I've been here for about two years, on the HVX side of things. Never dealt with a DVX until recently - my wife is teaching filmaking, and we got a used one for the class. Did a cursory check and all seemed fine.

Today she shot some interviews and we tried to play them back. Video looks great, but there appeared to be no audio- nothing through the phones or speaker, nothing on the level meters. Volume control is all the way up. So I put it in record mode and could hear it fine when recording - just no playback. Loaded the footage into FCP and the audio is there.

I went through all the settings and could not find one that could disable audio playback.
Did I miss something? Do i have a bad audio playback head ?

this has happened to me before...in my case, the reason I did not hear the audio is because on playback, the dvx only plays back one channel of audio, regardless of whether you've recorded one or two channels of audio...my guess is that your mic played back channel one, and your mic was connected to channel two (or vice versa)...I hope this helps!
