no audio coming in

Camera set to 720/30PN -- is there any reason why we wouldn't get sound in from either external mics or the camera mic? Can the camera record sound (non sync obviously) at speeds other than 24/30?

We were getting no sound coming into the camera, and could not find any reason for this in the manual. Thanks.

were you looking at the peak meters? because I have caught my self out there in the same situation and all it was, was the monitor level was down on the top of the camera.
The button that says:
PAGE/
AUDIO MON/VAR

The peak meters were dead regardless of where the pots were set.

ok so if the peak meters are dead then you don't have any input coming in.

start from the beginning. is your switch in the front of the camera set to "mic" or "line"?

then step 2, are your switches on the side of the camera set to "internal" or "line"

and third, if it's a condenser mic, is the phantom power switch turned on?

set the settings on the camera to record at 720PN at 24fps and see if you get any levels.

Because with those settings it definitely should get something.

I'll bet the issue is that you are not set at the DEFAULT framerate in the synchro scan menu. If you're recording 720 30pN, then either the synchro scan must be set to 30fps or DEFAULT (which will be 30fps). If you're at any other framerate no audio will be recorded. Whenever you select a record format in 720pN be absolutely sure the synchro is set to DEFAULT if you want audio.

EDIT AGAIN 3-16-10: This is the second time in two posts that I am referring to changing the framerate from the synchro scan menu. It is changed from the FRAMERATE menu. My apologies.

that was one of my first thoughts but he said he checked all that.

I would double check it.
Go to "menu" \ "Scene File" and make sure your frame rate matches what is in your record setup. You will not get audio or peak levels if this is not set correctly.

For example I have mine set to 24PN under recording setup.
and in the Scene File menu I have 24 as well, or "DEFAULT"

That should do it.

Let us know if that works.

I didn't see where he posted anything about the default framerate, but I did mislead to some extent by referring to the synchro scan menu when in fact those settings are adjusted in the framerate menu. See my edit above. I must be shooting too much footage or something :)

he may have gotten sound already, I noticed he joined in 2004 but has never posted before until this thread.
check it!
