Problem:

So at BVE 2014 the sony booth had an service in which when you register and bring your sony FS700 to the booth they will upgrade the firmware to V3.0 which would enable the camera to have SLOG2 and to output 4K via SDI

I registered my self and got the camera upgraded by a lovely man within a few hours.

Since then the camera has been working just fine as I’ve been shooting internally onto its SD card, however I have just purchase the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ 4K recorder.

And after connecting everything properly and setting up the FS700 & 7Q to output the 4K signal for some reason the recorder doesn’t recognise the feed coming in and the 7Q screen is completely blank.

However when I switch the recorder and the FS700 to Record a HD signal, both the camera and the recorder work completely fine and it allows me to record a clean 422 HD feed.

At first I thought there must be a problem with the recorder as its the first time using this, so I managed to arrange a Skype call with Mitch Gross the head of communications from Convergent Design where we ran the setup up process all over again step by step.

After trying several methods we came to a conclusion that the recorder, SDI cable is working completely fine however he did mention that a number of clients in the past had the same issue as mine, and the solution would be to contact Sony and re do the V3.0 firmware upgrade on the FS700.

So here I am, I have contacted Sony support and waiting for further instructions.

Any of you guys know if im doing anything wrong? As sony are saying I need to send it to Pencoed and charge me £90 even if they cant fix it etc etc.. which is annoying.

Also on bottom right hand corner of the monitor it keeps flashing slog 2 or rec 709 colour gamma and the camera i set to PP7 which is SLOG2 =/

That S-Log2 or REC709 warning always comes up to make sure you've set the camera to the correct mode.

Please note that an original FS700 (not FS700R) requires a HARDWARE upgrade in order to output RAW. I should think that this has been done to your camera as it does allow RAW to be selected in the menu, but stranger things have been known to happen. It is this hardware update that has caused issues in the past for some of our clients.
