FS7: No 24p 4k output to monitor.

Do you have your output set to PSF? That's often necessary. Also make sure its set to out HD rather than 4K but with SDI that's probably not an issue , but I would check my output settings. Sometimes I've had to reset my settings after trying 4K to HDMI out so I would turn HDMI off nad restart the camera. Frankly I can't remember exactly what I did. Just futzed till it worked, but I don't have that monitor.

When shooting 4K / UHD 1080 PsF is the only option for SDI, that's the issue as some monitors have problems with Sony's PsF signal.

Never had an issue with my DP7 while shooting 4K with the F5. I assume it's showing HD. It's been a reliable monitor.
The earlier AC7 must be another issue.

I'm thinking that is the problem. "legacy" monitor. And smallHD has no incentive to issue a firmware update. They would rather you purchase a newer monitor.

Thanks everyone.

The AC7 was a lower tier monitor than the DP7. The AC7 was basically a larger DP6, from what I saw and based on the menu system.

But both of them were designed and created before they sold out to Vitec. I just hope my DP7 never gets lost, stolen or breaks since they discontinued it.

I was just double checking the output settings on the F5...you can set it to downconvert plain ol' HD P output on any spigot on the camera besides test out. I would think the AC7 would be happy with that.
Either your output wasn't set right on the F5 or there's an input setting the AC7 that you need to twiddle...?

I remember smallHD was blowing those AC monitors out at a very attractive price at one point. Makes me wonder...

Good luck!

For some reason, to get an HDMI output to either my cheap 7" monitor or a 32" monitor, I had to set the output to "1080i" rather than 1080P. The image looked great even though it was theoretically interlaced.

4K / UHD does not have interlaced options, neither HDMI nor SDI. That's the whole point.

OP was talking about FS7, not F5.

Never had a problem with 4K 24p via SDI to my 702 lite. HDMI won't work at 4K 24p for many of my monitors just SDI.

And yes SmallHD is crap. My 702 quite showing any picture when booted up. Trying to deal with SmallHD now. Its only 6months old and has been babied. SmallHD isn't worth the money especially now that they are owned by Vitec. More profit and lower QC and customer service. yippy.

I just went round-and-round with the FS7's outputs trying to find a wireless video system that works, so I may actually be able to weigh in here.

Via HDMI, your FS7 when in 4k @ 24p can output 4k, UHD, or 1080p. The HDMI's signal is true progressive, not PSF. However, by default, it appears that the HDMI signal is not on. Go to the video output menu, make sure that the HDMI output is on and the output format is set to an HDMI setting. Further, it looks like your AC7 can't handle anything greater than 1080p, so make sure that you don't have the output set to 4k.

Via SDI, your FS7 when in 4k @ 24p can output 1080psf and that's it. Further, it cannot output to both SDI and HDMI at the same time. If your monitor supports 1080psf, you should be able to get a signal if you've selected this output format. Looking at the AC7's specs here, it would appear that via SDI it supports "1090psf30/25/34", which I'm going to assume is a hilarious double typo by which they mean "1080psf30/25/24".

Basically, make sure that you've got everything in the right modes, and do some testing. In a worst case scenario, you can always use a converter box like we ended up having to do to handle our wireless video. We went with the Atomos Connect, which other than having a fairly clunky interface, works great.

A wonderfully informative reply from a fellow Lousianian. Thank you Christopher!

I just did some testing and Christopher is correct- when in 24p 4k the SDI output is 1080psf and the SmallHD AC-7 will accept that signal. Seems I started all of this as a result of my operator error- I did not have the SDI output selected to "on". I thought it would automatically send whichever output, HDMI or SDI, you plugged into.

I feel bad for making my stupid error into an entire thread, but maybe there was some learning in the process. The engineering of these cameras can certainly be quirky and at times makes no sense at all. Rarely is there consistency in design. You just have to attempt to commit things to memory. ( Like the location of the headphone jack on Sony camera models. ) I often jump around from different camera models in my work. During the week I had the issue getting a signal to my monitor I shot with 5 different camera models. That's my excuse, anyway, and I am sticking with it.

Tomorrow I am on the C300 again. One word: Ugh.
