No 1/12 shutter speed in DV 24p or 24pA

The options for adjusting shutter speed seem pretty limited. My HVX200a goes from 1/24 to 1/60 to 1/120, etc. I can't tell if this is how it's supposed to be or not. This is shooting 480i/24p. Barry Green's book says I should be able to slow down to 1/12, but I just can't find it. When in 480i/30p it gets down to 1/15, though. Any thoughts on this?

1/12 is longer than 24 per second, so that just doesn't make mathematical sense at that frame rate. Is his book referring to that specific frame rate?

It says "Selelcting FILM CAM mode enables variable frame rate shooting (in 720p) and film-style shutter angles in the Syncro Scan menu; selecting VIDEO CAM mode enable standard fractional shutter speeds in the Syncro Scan menu, News Gamma and DRS, One-Shot recording, Interval Recording, Pre-Rec mode, Loop Recording and slow shutter speeds (1/12 in 50Hz, and 1/15 in 60 Hz models; 1/12 in 720/24p mode and 50Hz models)."

I don't claim to understand all of that just yet, and I had the camera set to 480i/24p and 480i/30p when I was looking for that lower shutter speed. Maybe that's only available in 4801/60i? Just when I think I'm starting to know what I'm doing, I realize....not so much ;)

You need to set the framerate to 12 and set the shutter to 360 degree to get a 1/12th shutter speed.

1/12th of a second is 2 frames at 24p. (remember although its obvious some people forget, 1/12th is a longer time than 1/24th of a second)
At 24p a 1/24 shutter is open all the time, you can't open the shutter longer because it has already shut after 1/24th of a second and is already recording the next frame. You can only have a shutter speed that is a fraction of frame. The 180 degree shutter is open for half the frame time.

I don't know if the OP has figured this out yet, but I can say that I just set my camera to 'video cam' in the scene file and tried it, the shutter does in fact go that low. Make sure that you're on the right scene file, since I don't see anything else that could affect it.
