Nle

Hi there,

me again. :engel017:

Assume, the HVX would come out tomorrow. (okay, stop drooling, pls.)
What current NLE wouldbe compatible to the HVX even on the HD side?
Am I right that today FCP is the only NLE that could deal with HD material fom the HVX?
(Do I really have to buy a Mac? That would start to get really expensive...)

I'm asking this because I'd like to buy a (professional) NLE soon and for sure I want it to be 100% compatible to the HVX which I will get as soon as it comes out. Until now, I have only used consumer NLEs like Magix Video Deluxe and such.

regards,
Oli

Just for the record:
Pete's PM had nothing to do with NLE's so I'm still curious for an answer to my initial question.

kind regards,
Oli

Being a Final Cut Pro user, yes indeed Final Cut Pro can handle HVX200 footage natively as all the DVCPro codecs are native in Final Cut. I believe Avid is the only other NLE that has native support as well, but I could be wrong ...

Yes, Avid already supports the P2 and can edite directly off the cards (if you should need to) and 720p/23.976 support has already shipped, sp it is set to go.

This brings me to this:

a) a MAC (PowerMac 2x2GHz) + FCP:.................... seen for around $2000 + $1000
b) Avid XPress Pro HD (is that the right one?) :..... seen for around $2000

Wow!

I've seen Premiere Studio Pro 1.5 OEM for.......................... around $200
and Vegas for..................................................................... around $650

boy, I'm in trouble now. :undecided

Avid has 100% functionality with DVCPRO-HD right now, and Avid even worked in partnership with Panasonic to develop the DVCPRO-HD codec.

Other PC apps that include DVCPRO-HD support are Canopus Edius (with some sort of codec pack) and ... well, there's another one, and I can't think of the name right now. But there are at least three choices and I think it's four.

Well, I like Sony Vegas but it does not support DVCPRO-HD yet. But I assume that it will be able to edit all HVX200 other formats (except for DVCPRO-HD)... until one of these days it will support it. I will stick with Vegas. I am sure many will be contacting Sony and asking for DVCPRO-HD.
