Hey Guys,

I've recently started working on my second feature film with my producing partner Mike, entitled Nitecrawlers. While we're still very early in the process (shooting is scheduled for Fall 2011), I wanted to post about it now to alert all you guys that we've started a blog to document the entire filmmaking process. More on that later.

For those of you who don't know me, I am the guy who made Plasterhead, a $20,000 feature-length horror film that received national and worldwide DVD distribution. If you want to read a catch-all summary of my experience with Plasterhead, I've made a post on the new blog about the film, which you can read HERE. I've also posted about Plasterhead in several threads over the years here on DVXUser. I've dug up a couple of them if you guys want to check them out, HERE and HERE.

Okay, so hopefully that buys me enough street cred. Back to Nitecrawlers. For this second film, Mike and I want to take logical steps up in all areas from what we did with Plasterhead. That film was non-union; Nitecrawlers will be shot on the SAG Ultra-Low Budget Agreement. The budget for Nitecrawlers is a logical step up too...we're hoping to spend $200,000 on the film (the max you can spend under the SAG Ultra-Low Budget Agreement).

Back to the blog. We've actually had it going since last November, which is when scripting for Nitecrawlers began. The blog will hopefully be a resource that many of you, especially first-time filmmakers, will find helpful. While making Plasterhead, Mike and I went through so many struggles and triumphs (we were only 22 at the time), all of which went undocumented. Many of them were due to our lack of knowledge on the filmmaking process (especially the legal/business end). This blog is a direct answer to all that.

This time around, Mike and I are documenting everything. Every expense, every step, every process, along with many of the personal struggles that independent filmmakers go through, like trying to find time to work on your passion project amidst the regular 9-to-5 grind of "real life." The reason I'm posting about it now is because I think there's already a lot of stuff on there that this particular community will find interesting and, perhaps, useful. I also want to start mirroring the blog posts here, along with other updates and hopefully, spark some insightful conversation and dialogue. At its heart, independent filmmaking is truly a community effort, and I value the DVXUser community over any other filmmaking hub on the Web. Without this place, Plasterhead would have never gotten made.

You can access the blog at the (future) home of the film's official website, http://www.nitecrawlersmovie.com. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

And no, the film is not about killer worms.
