Hey guys and gals, for anyone interested in no-budget ghetto filmmaking and visual effects, I invite you to check out my film Ninjas VS Pirates. We just did this to be ridiculous in our spare time, and it's my first experiment keying and doing basic VFX. All but two scenes were shot in front of 9 pieces of green posterboard in 12" wide living room, using 3 or 4 $12 Walmart worklights.

The seperate acts are shown in much better quality and has a funnier soundtrack, but the i-film version is the entire flick in one go.

I used a DVX-100a, and edited only in Final Cut. I used dvMatte Pro plugin by dvGarage for the greenscreen keying.

OK, enjoy this example of no-budget filmmaking. And if anyone has any Q's about our ghetto processes, shoot away.

PEACE,
MICAH

could you please show us the greenscreen you worked on? Very curious to see it all setup.

 That was so clever. Very cool. The fight scenes were great! You'd make Bruce Lee proud once he stopped laughing. Nice moves guys. Keep it up.

If people do not like this movie, they are trying to hard to be serious. This movie started out funny and ended that way. The fight scenes were excellent, and the effects rocked. The sound could be spiced up, but I think its low quality added to the hilarity. I LOVED this movie. I actually bookmarked it. Too many people are trying to be the next Tarantino instead of having fun and being able to laugh at themsleves. From the Concept to the end, I give this a 10 thumbs up and will reccomend it to all my friends!

That's funny, Someone in one of my film classes at Columbia College did a film called Ninjas Vs. Pirates that was very similar about 3 years ago. Just a cool idea I guess.

Seems like you copied what I did back in July. Sorry to bring back in old thread. I thought it was funny because you said what I said almost exactly.

GREEN SCREEN TEST/SHOT IN MY FRIENDS LIVING ROOM!

My good friend Fernando Ulloa and I have been great film partners since high school, he knew about this trailer competition for awhile now, but said he couldn't come up with any ideas. Well, that's when I stepped in and told him I've been wanting to try something like Sin City. A few weeks went by and we were still trying to figure out WHEN we could do it, since both of us work 50+ hours a week, and HOW we were going to do it. Somehow I had an epiphany, since we didn't have a studio to shoot in or any real controlled lighting, we would use Home Depot lights and 9 pieces of green posterboard taped together.

To cut this a little short, let's just say it was a great learning experience for proper lighting. Unfortunately, the quality isn't that great since I had to go through a long process of making a copy of a copy of a copy. Watch it on low resolution to see what it's really supposed to look like. Anyways, here's the clip. Please give me some feedback.

sure, i'll try to find some unedited footage and UL it so you can see how it looked. unfortunately I've since moved out of that apartment and into a house, or else i'd just snap a quick pic. I was going to do a little scenes as a bonus without any keying, but didn't have time to work on this project beyond it's completion.

thank you, yeah
you definately got that the biggest joke in the film IS the film, hehe. spot on.

the sound was pretty bad. initially i expected the sound AND image to be bad, but the visuals ended up kinda neat. it looks better on TV. i had the cheapest boom mic i could find -- I was the only production crew and didn't bother setting up the mic properly (since this was intended to be a quick side project, mainly to learn about keying and such).

thanks for the feedback everyone, and i'll try to find some greenscreen footage unkeyed soon!
