Ninja Video... yup

Wow, I haven't been in the forum for months. Anyhow, I found myself alone and miserable on Thanksgiving so I spent the morning making a video greeting for my friends, family, and fans of my site. Took me five hours to shoot, cut, encode, and post. I shot it on the 100a with a tripod and no crew (total budget $4.00). Check out Ninja Dinner!

Heh, not bad. I think the hidden message about having a safe Thanksgiving is *not* having a microwave turkey dinner! :')

Btw - Cool site. Nice collection of videos.

Cute afternoon fun. I liked unscripted. Laughed out loud when the ninja came into frame.

Was the ninja shot on a DVX? Your site says you're using sony's.

Hey, if you're LA local, I'm looking to crew up on a project in the future. You guys interested in pooling resources on projects? Touch base with me through my website. I've got a dolly and a light kit.

The ninja was shot with a DVX. I didn't set up any lights. Still working my way up to that. If you click on the images on the front page of the site, the type of camera we use is indicated, we've shot on Canons, Sonys, and Panasonics. Basically whatever is available. The info page is two years old and probably says we still use Sonys.

We are LA local. I'll get in touch with you to see if we can be of any assistance.

Dude, lights would totally help your visuals......but as for the no crew, no money production. Values were good.

Where did you get that cheesy music? It brings me back to nintendo days. (my first time with ninjas....sigh)

there are some funny clips on that website.. good stuff. You got some comedy in you and thats hard stuff to pull off.

you should dump that dance clip off google video though.. google video is the worst thing google has ever done.

not to be nitpicky about the props, but that wasn't a Katana, that was more a of ninja style sword, which for this purpose is better :)

I know, I know. I just haven't had the time to really learn about lighting. I have a problem with color blindness so it's hindered my progress in cinematography. It's a shame to have a camera as powerful as the DVX and to not use it properly but for the time being, I'm trying to discover where my strengths are. So for now, the world gets crappy lighting and weekend, no-budget videos!

The music is from the old Sega Master System classic, Shinobi. I used to play that video game as a kid and using it in my short made me smile.

Reflection was freaking hilarious. It absolutely seemed like 2 different people acting.

Thank you for the compliment. I shot that one with a roommate who held a mic for me and read the reflection's dialogue back to me. I've been working on a sequel to that forever but I haven't come up with anything I'm happy with.

That was actually a friend's short film. I've been trying to get a copy of it from him to encode into QT & WMV. I can't even watch Google video at work because it crashes my browser.

Fun stuff! Was that a t-shirt ninja?

Actually, it's a full ninja uniform that I bought a couple of years ago from a Martial Arts supply store. The whole outfit (six pieces) was around $18 but the tabi (split-toe) boots cost me nearly twice as much... but you gotta have the boots. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of that suit. Ninjas crack me up so anytime I need some inspiration, I throw a ninja into a short. Instant funny for my tastes.
