Nikon Z9 with internal 8K 60p RAW !

"The firmware update will enable internal Raw video capture at up to 60p. Nikon says this will include a 12-bit 8K/60 option in a new, proprietary 'N-Raw' format or internal ProRes Raw HQ capture at up to 4K/60.


Nikon says the camera will be able to shoot its oversampled 4K/30 for more than 2 hours (at 'normal' temperatures). It also says the latency over HDMI has been halved, compared with the Z6 II and previous Nikon cameras, meaning it's much more practical to monitor the camera's output."

amazing

too bad that you don't get full readout when overcranking 4K.

but i feel like the maximum resolution of a camera is, in actuality, what it can perform in 60p and not 24p. so that makes this the first real 8K mirrorless camera. not that i need such a thing

It's A1 for a grand less. It may not have contrast detect AF but it seems to work very well off all the reviews/previews regardless. Promised firmware upgrades to N-Log and ProRes Raw are also very competitive for its price point.

And it doesn't overheat.

Those with Nikon/Nikkor glass should be pleased.
 
I’ve got Nikon glass 400/2.8 and 600/f4 and they don’t fit ??? “d” lenses
and 20-35 and 50 1.4
which was no mean spend

A rewind on Sony sensor auto focus - Sony has both, Nikon and Fuji only have phase detect, Panasonic and Leica only have contrast detect, Sigma has both ... disabled (mostly).

Canon only has phase detect but it has dual pixels.

IMO, a lot depends on the processing chip. There's probably enough info to nail the AF even in low light. But I have not seen any low light AF tests so far. Of course, those were preproduction models also.

Uh ... uh ... Granger says that the Expeed 7 processor in Z9 is 10 times faster than Expeed 6 (Z7 has a pair of Expeed 6's), so that's what does the trick. Maybe he's correct. It's probably the algorithms on top of the processing power bump. Or, as they say in McDonald's, it's the the secret sauce that makes all the difference. Only Minato knows.
 
"This is the official hands-on pReview of the Nikon Z9. As a reminder, it's called a pREVIEW and not a review, because the camera I was using had pre-production firmware on it. With that being said, we had three days to work with the Z9 and run it through its paces. I captured sports, portraits, low light and more. The Z9 was used to film all the b-roll clips and on-location clips. The desk portion of the video was filmed with the Canon EOS R5."

He said he kept some F2 telephotos but has been shooting on Canon for a while now. (He films in his studio on R5 and it looks great)

It's a good point.
I only have a mild curiosity in this camera as to where it might push Canon (and specifically the R1 which is set to be announced in the near year).
I have tens of thousands of dollars invested in the Canon systems and am not intending to transition to either Nikon or Sony.
