Random outdoor portrait work tip: Mount a white reflecting board (I use a piece of 24"x36" foam poster board from Michael's Arts & Crafts) to a cheap tripod. Then you can easily position it however you wish. It has served me well. On that note, today I did headshots for my friend Dawn, and among them took a few for myself including the one below. No modifications, this is straight out of camera (just resized).
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Honestly this was one of the most successful shoots I've had. The colors and light were just awesome today, I wish I could post a dozen of them on here, but honestly that'd just be annoying I think. Anyhow, thanks again.
Oh, forgot to mention if anyone's curious, the above shot was done with a Nikkor 85mm f2 on a D80, lens iris wide open, ISO 100, don't recall shutter speed.
2 in the can, I'd love to see the original, as well as maybe a higher res copy of the final product. I think conceptually it's a good shot, although I'm not completely sure about the final execution, but honestly it may just be because of it's size.
Theodoros, I have been a silent admirer of your photography for quite some time. I really enjoy your work. Always so rich in emotion!
On the first set with the model, is this all natural lighting?
I see you light up her face with the mirror in the one picture in the bathtub.
Also the grading in the last to pictures... it has this very filmlook to it, but as I remember you are shooting on a D2xs. Was that just achieved in digital grading?
Yes it's only natural lighting on the 1st set.
The 2nd set is wth a little help from a mirror i've found there
(unfortunatelly i didn't have my lights with me).
I shoot with d3 and d2xs, the last two are with d2xs + 85mm f1.4d.
Filmlook achieved in photoshop.
