Waiter, the meal was divine. I think I will close with a nice brandy.

Matt, I love the last one, especially with the dvx caption. :)

Thanks, I thought it to be appropriate. heh.

great pics, Matt :) Where is that ominous flair coming from in the second one? Flash?

Original:

Ominous flare is a combo of darkening the background, a little hand painting, and 1 frame from the "Light Sheets" emitter from emitter library 8-3 from Particle Illlusion.

Light sheet pic is on two layers one blurred a lot set to Lighten Color, the other blurred a little set to screen. Opacity to taste.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I got a kick out of doing that one.

jposiniditos--your photos are so organic. they are fantastic. such a great blend of raw and polish. and that model...wow. breathtaking. she is stunning. you two make a great tandem...

I call this work. "Aiden's Buttocks"

I call this work. "Aiden's Buttocks"

And for obvious reasons.

No, I didn't take this shot on my D70.

I find an almost perfect, and yet importantly and subtle non symmetrical aspect to the butt. Notice how it leans slightly, and how one leg is only minutely less shallow into the crawl. I find this to be a perfect example of Man's unwaivering, and yet unattainable attempt at perfection. Subtle, yet divine, Absurd, and yet flaccid. The photo shows conflict as well, a battle for dominance, but one that is almost imperceptible, a perfect juxtaposition to our own struggles in the daily "grind". There is beauty and color and flowing grace of the living, surrounded buy the harsh lines or cold reality imposed on us represented here but the rug and geometric patterns and layout of the room.

Original was so under developed almost nothing could be seen, hence the noise and or colorations.

My kid is going to hate me when he is older.

Hee hee hee

Hi Matt, I dig the shots you take of your kid, they always have a comedic undertone for some reason, maybe I just think babies are funny, who knows :) I like the composition and light in this one but not the colors, or whatever is giving him that bruised look. I can't pinpoint what is hurting the shot but for instance his legs look...hairy. Maybe it's an ISO problem? Something in post is not right here. Someone with post skills will chime in I'm sure cause something is hurting the image.

Nice shot :)

I am one of the people who would chime in and tell you what is wrong in post, thank you very much . . . . :)

Thanks for the compliment Alvraz, actually, here is the problem:

That's the original. It was a .jpg and not a raw file also, so I had a lot less info to work with. Plus, I wanted to crank it out as quickly as I could to make a funny. I should have spent much more time evening things out, I could have made it look perfect, that's well within my abilities.

I should have taken more time to paint in and even out the flesh tones, as well as clearing up more of the noise, but it's a pic of my kid's butt.

Let's keep things in perspective, shall we??

Streetlight Manifesto. A self portrait.

StreetlightManifesto.jpg

Nikon D80 | 18-135mm f/3.5

Perfect backlighting, neat concept.

Only small crit would be it looks like you are using a fairly wide angle, which makes the subject material in front center bulge a little.

But, that is only a small thing, and easily fixed.

Hey man, I was bored, played with the image, a totally different take though, hope you don't mind. I'm not a post guy so pardon my amateur work :)

Thanks Matt, I was actually kind of going for the fisheye effect, wanted to create a somehow hyperactive representation of the world around me.

I figured you were going for that, though at first it was a little distracting. Love the pic though.

Looks good. I don't mind at all. I will happily send you the original in 6.1 megapixel form if you wanna play with it at full rez. You said you took a different approach, what approach did you take? Because that looks much more "artsy" pr something that would be in a gallery than what I did. For kust messing around, I think it came out great! Send me the .psd in a .zip file if you like. I see the extra shadowing, and I really dig it.

Are you using CS3? There may be some things in that I don't have. I am really digging the use of lighting you did. You reenforced what was there, and made him the center of the photo. Great work. Outstanding work.

EDIT: Quote from my wife when I read her your post, "There is nothing that looks amature there. That looks really good"

What's this? A nearly untouched self portrait? Yikes!!

That is pretty much exactly what I look like at this moment. I had just gotten the sb600 and my friend and I were playing with it as a remote flash. What a great flash it is.
