Gotta get more people in here... understanding still photography is so important to filmmaking.

I agree with that, but mostly it's the lighting that comes right back to filmmaking.

I say the more people who get into it the better!

My favorite thing about photography is that you can frame thirty seconds of life into a single frame... I haven't found a time lapse on my DVX that can do that yet.

Today's Images

Well this was my last vacation day at work until our vacation time resets in September so I slept in, then saw the first movie of my life alone in the theatre, and then worked out at the Y, and then finally got around to taking some pictures. Here are my acquisitions from today, all IR, all on the 18-70mm lens, and all shot from my porch with at least 2 second shutter. Various post steps taken, but here are the final images.

Yes Isaac... you and your artsy work... makin' us all look bad... well I'm just tempted to post my most magical shot of the day thanks to you! Why I oughta'... (talk like 30's gangster)...

Okay here's some crap from today... if I had balls I'd post my favorite pic of the day... yes it would take big balls to post that shot.

I want to do something really cool for the water shot, so let's hope this isn't it:

This cow shot should have been better, but it's okay... here's a taste of the midwest:

And these feet here were made for walking on water:

WOW! This thread has really grown!

I had not seen it for a while since as D200 user I was feeling "left out" until I saw the new thread title. Yay! Now I can play!

I've just skipped over the thread really quickly and have to say it is interesting to see how guys who are primarily cinematographers approach still photography.

Also, there seems to be far more discussion here about post processing than about "lens lust" like on the DPReview forums and most other Nikon forums.

Here's a few from my nascent Flickr account that I just opened.

Basically aside from cropping on the second one and sharpening on the third these are right out of the camera. C&C welcome of course!

Joe... I really like the first shot... mixed feelings about the second... and I'm guessing the third is an ex with her new boyfriend?

Blue... nice shots... I'm jealous.

I like the first and third shot. I'm a big fan of unrehearsed shots. I would crop out the shoulder on the right in the third shot. It doesn't belong in the picture. Cropping the third would also give the lovers center stage too since they're slightly offcenter at the moment.

Nice shots spider and joe.

Im curious to how many people here went to school for film making, because it sounds like im the only one that had to take photography classes as requirements lol. cuz i keep hearing how someone is surprised how interested we are in photography, when it goes hand in hand with film making.

Thanks all for the kind remarks! You know I never even noticed that shoulder!

An ex with a new lover? nah, these are all just candids of people at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade.

Didn't exactly go to film school, but took lots of electives at NYU's School Of The Arts in the late 60s and early 70s.

Well I spent more than a few hours in that 90+ degree hot Carolina sun today getting my shots for the Water challenge. How is everyone coming along with their entries?
