The Moon

The Moon

Our closest heavenly body:

Shot at 300 mm 1/1000 (yes I wrote that correctly). The little speck below is a planet, though I don't know which.

Shot RAW and adjusted some Levels. You can actually see the impact craters around the rim.

meandering around again...

I hope you like them :)

Nikon D80 18-135mm kit lens.

These were cropped from widescreen, so the Road Closed pic looks a bit funny. Many thanks to DJ Hype for explaining how to post the pics.

I dig this one.
How did you shot this?

I captured the smoke by using a strobe from the left and a black background. I used aluminum foil to prevent the light from the strobe to hit the background so that the background would be completely dark. The picture was then inverted and colorized in photoshop.

Shooting smoke is really quite easy, as long as you have a strobe and a black background. The hardest part is to make good smoke. I lit MacGyver tape (gaffa-tape/redneck chrome, whatever) on fire for a short period, before I blew out the flame. This makes a thick, good smoke.

I'm glad you liked it :D
