Nikon D200 w/ 18-70mm Nikkor

I was camping out near this fire tower last week. I thought I'd climb it around 2am and take a really neat shot of the skyline. I cranked the exposure compensation to the max and used a flash. I set the auto timer to 5 secs, and then the shutter to 13 secs. I ran into place and tried to remain perfectly still for the entire 13 seconds as it exposed. The faintly lit skyline popped out. My outline, and anything in close became washed out from the flash.

Photoshop wasn't harmed in the making of this image. This came straight out of my camera. Well, I downsized it by 35-40% and compressed it more into a jpeg, but I didn't treat it.

I really like this shot I took of my good friend Ben. He has a unibrow but I think it adds character.

WOW! I just discovered this thread. Just got back from Yosemite with my D50. I really love the feel of that camera and it's images. I shot almost 700 shots in Bass Lake and Yosemite. I might post 3 or 4. It was absoultely PERFECT hiking weather...68 degrees beautiful perfect clear blue sky. I wish I had my HVX and a Flyer on the trails. Too much hassle on vacation, maybe later.

Nice thread. Some great fotos here.

How would you compare it to the ZF 85 1.4 to the Nikkor 85 1.4?
The ZF is manual focus only right?

I have both Nikon 85mm f1.4 AIS and Zeiss 85 (yes, full manual) and my personal opinion is that the Zeiss produces better colors and has much better contrast.

Not sure if the intention is to create a floating head, I would've liked some fill on the dark side of his face, just enough to bring up some detail.

Yes, in this shot the intention was to show just the right side of the head. Although, you are right about the dark side. It would bring more detail if it wasn't so dark for sure. I have one "similar" shot that the head isn't floating. Maybe this way it works better :

Thanks a lot for the suggestions Isaac. Much appreciated.

I love shots like these so I had to create one myself. I shot this on a D80 does this still count?
