Nikon User Thread

Not to stray too much further off thread relevancy but holy cow, check out some of the tornado vids on you tube. I thought I was all cool for about 5 seconds but there's some mind blowing video with houses being sucked up etc.

I love the translucent border on this one, it really works well with the image aesthetically as well as conceptually (the translucent border mirrors the translucent fabric). The image is very nice as well.

thanks for the praise guys :) it was just a fun little photoshoot.

Lighting is as follows, sb800 with umbrella 1/4 power camera right.
SB26 bare bulb camera left 1/8 power. I believe the exposure was around 1/100 of a second f5.6 or so.

I'm working on a few more, i'll post when i'm happy with em :)

here's another one. This one just kind of happened but I like it, maybe not as much as the previous one.

let me know what you think.

I was upset when I realized there was so little intimate portrait work done of insects or spiders. Here's my first attempt to change that. Please note this spider is roughly the size of my pinky nail, so it was very hard to get his eyes in focus, the second shot here is the closest I was able to come to that. He was spinning a web in the wind, so after about 250 shots taken, 5 I felt were usable, and these 2 I felt were good enough to display.

Cool spider pics. I should have taken some pictures of the Praying Mantis I spied last weekend when I was outside doing some yard work. He was even munching on a fat cricket which was almost as big as he was. I had thought about filming it, but it never entered my mind just to snap off a few pictures, darnit.

I think one of the reasons people don't take as many photos of insects is because it is much harder to get the quality at such a smaller scale. I know that is a problem I have run into, because I only have kit lenses at this point.

None the less, it is a great idea, and something I will be happy to join in.
