Nikon to buy 100% of RED

The cinema camera market is such a small, niche market. It’s not super surprising to see what the company sold for. The merger should do exactly what everyone is saying it will do. Nikon has the resources to now launch RED well beyond what they were previously capable of. It really is a win-win.

That would be a 2nd surprise...

The cinema camera market can be a niche, RED is now 1-2% of Nikon.
Digital aka DSMC is not though. Neither compressed RAW boon.

so weird to see Z-mounts on new REDs, ha...but they made a decent power zoom for them (like 10 years late though)

The power zoom looks like a Sony clone of their similar f/4 power zoom. It’s not, but it sure feels like it.

Uninspiring start by Nikon in terms of cinema lenses but they will surely build on it.

It's the only thing I thought when I first saw it...that this is the Sony lens 10 years later, ha. And how I really wanted it in 2015 but it was too slow and wondered if the next generation right now will want these kind of lenses.

I assume it has far better optical quality but I don't care enough to find out
