Anyone tried the Nikon Nikkor 85-250 mm f/ 4.5 (very old Nikon glass) on their AF100? Looking for an inexpensive alternative to the great Nikon super telephoto’s (read super expensive). On a side note has anyone ever used the Nikon 1200-1700?
....have used an old Vivitar 200 - 500 though with my GH1 way back.... some shots included here... https://vimeo.com/16921665
....but that one committed suicide by rolling off a chair. Still working but a bit cross-eyed now....
Have also the Vivitar 600 - 1000 (with adapter 1200 - 2000) that produces very "interesting" shots and very nice chromatic aberrations..... ;-)
... and am currently shooting some stuff with an older 170 - 500 Sigma with Nikon f-mount.
So my take on such long glass: Nice effects at times but you lose in technical quality a lot unless you spent a mind boggling amount of money. But "technical quality" becomes a minor onjection, when the shot you need is the shot you need to tell your story.
Here we had some shots for a TV-Movie taken with AG-AF 101 and some long Nikon glass (shot through thick, tinted, sky scraper windows). Yo can say technically that's not good. I'd say it was telling a story and we had no other means to shoot it so forget about "technical".
Thanks tipota. I think I needed to hear that film making is not always about technical quality. It’s too easy to forget this. Your response is very likely my tipping point. Cheers.
