Nikon Next website

Nikon has launched an interesting site showcasing their ongoing development. The movie clip section has some great examples I am assuming of D90 works. The inclusion of which furthur cements in my opinion their commitment to video. I wish I knew more technical details on the how the footage was handled in the samples cause they look really nice. Its mainly stationary shots I noticed or very slow controlled camera movements. Here's the link.

Like i said it would be great if we could know more about the clips but I don't see how thats possible?

I don't know why they would do that. RED is talked about in the director interview, and there are many pictures of the RED camera shown while reading.

Interesting project either way.

Movie clips are shot on RED camera.... Most likely with Nikon Lenses :)

I was about to say something about you just joking and then I checked the site and at least one of the clips is indeed shot with a RED, therefore it wouldn't surprise me if they all were, just too lazy to check.

Am I just a little simple or is that a serious case of misleading the viewer, of which i haven't seen for a long time. I mean the website is gushing about the Nikon and its future in creative media (of course it is still first a photographers tool) and then shows 'sample' clips which suggest in my mind they are examples of work with Nikons.....?

still nice clips though.......soooo when is the scarlet coming out?

Well, at least in Fact#2 they do mention a commitment to more research and development for the movie feature. They also know and care about the response to the D90 Movie mode.

Those videos on the Nikon Next website are to showcase Nikon and their cameras. I'd say more the still photography not the DMovie mode.

The Nikon USA site has the D movie samples.

Those films are great. Not just some high res boring demo without soul.
I love "Things Passed Down" very much.

Thanks for sharing.

Two of the three are shot with the RED. Things Passed Down looks like it was shot with a shoulder mount 2/3" type camera like F950 or Varicam. The RED cameras pictured don't have nikon lenses on them, they look like the RED zooms or Cine glass. So I'm not sure why Nikon funded these projects other than to show some forward vision into moving pictures.

One day, I hope Nikon DSLR's can do 120 fps at 2K. Not there yet.

maybe nikon is merging with red . my guess is jim is selling his small company because he couldn't deliver his vision of scarlet. and nikon is a willing buyer because they don't have a video department yet.

expect jim's next big announcement: "Scarlet has changed again ... it changed ownership" :D

If Nikon & RED merged... that would be a BLESSING ;)
