Nikon Lenses and HVX Stock Lens

I never wanted to ask a ‘n00b’ question. I thought all the lurking I did would answer my questions without having to ask for help. Alas, the search menu has not been able to help me. My question is: is it possible to attach the Nikon lenses to the stock lens of the HVX? Or does it require a 35mm adaptor to do said task?

If possible, what is the widest angle Nikon suggested for the HVX?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hiya and welcome to the forum.

Yes you'll need a 35mm adaptor such as an SGPRO, a Redrock M2, the Letus or the multitude of other great adapators.

Many come in the Nikon lens as either your chosen mount or one you can switch.

You should find that you can use amy wide angle lenses you would on a Nikon 35mm body as the image from the lens is projected onto a ground glass within the adpator and then your camera focuses on the ground glass. It means focusing two things, the camera on the ground glass and the lens on the object or subject of the video.

There are loads to choose from and different people will say which one they go for.

Happy reading !

based on the nature of your question, id suggest the brevis from cinevate as your best choice. its the only 35mm adapter that doesnt REQUIRE a rods setup. plus its relatively easy to set up, comparatively...

and once you have it set up properly, the only things that you shouldnt use are lenses for digital SLR cameras and really slow standard lenses - everything else is up to you

Out of curiosity wgzn and please forgive me if this is a newbie question as well.

I have three Nikon lenses for my digital SLR. 2 VR Zoom lenses (18-200mm and 70-300mm) and one prime 50mm 1.4f. Is that mean I can only use the 50mm lens.
If I get additional lenses for the HVX, should they be only prime lenses? Also, if I get Brevis, should I specify for the adaptor to be used only with Nikon lenses?

Carlos.

You should read the stickies in the 35mm adapter section.
Even if you do get a brevis adapter i would suggest using rails.
You'll eventually want a follow focus and something more than a clip on mattebox.
You pick a lensmount for the adapter. Many of the adapters you can switch mounts.
For your lenses if they arn't dx lenses they should work.
Most people get primes because they are cheaper to get a fast set rather than a fast zoom set. Primes are generally sharper also.

But, like i said. read all of the stickied threads in that section and it should help you out.

yeah, when you order your brevis you specify the lens brand mount or mounts you want. but they are interchangeable, so you might get various mounts to give you future lens brand options...

and NO you cant use digital lenses. well you can (as im told), but you wont get good results

And if you defiantely go with a Nikon mount [optional or as your only mount] then you'll have some great fast and sharp Zeiss Nikon manual lenses. They are Zeiss fast lenses, made for a manual Nikon mount !

They do a T1.4 in the 50mm and 85mm, and a T2.0 35mm. My 50mm is fantastic quality! Everything is manual, from focus to aperture.

Enjoy, whichever adaptor you buy !
