Nikon IS (VR) on FS700

Hello forum,

I'm wondering if there are any adaptors out there that allow for Nikon lens' Image Stabilization (VR) to work with the FS700.

I have some Nikon glass that I love shooting with, but the lack of IS is making me want to switch to Canon mount for use with Metabones active speedbooster adaptor. I have no familiarity with Canon lenses so I would be starting from scratch, but is there anyone out there who has found a solution for Nikon IS with FS700?

I'm looking to buy some new cine primes and if I can find a way to make Nikon IS work with FS700 I'll just stay with F mount gear...as opposed to going EF or whatever.
-Thanks in advance, Rafael

I don't think you can make IS work with Nikons because with Nikon's there's only non-electronic mounts. To get IS, you need either Canon or Sony lenses.

I don't think with Cine Primes you can get IS either since all cine primes are manual only. I just use Zeiss primes (non-IS) and Canon zooms with IS. Good combo.

Thanks for the reply, Gene!

Yeah, I haven't found any smart adaptors between F and E mounts...which is too bad! Does anyone know why that hasn't bee developed yet? Seems like there's tons of Nikon glass out there so there's definitely a market.

I guess for the time being I'll have to start looking for some good sharp canon glass. Any recommendations?

Should I then be lookin to also get cine primes in EF mount in order to stick with one adaptor? Or is PL mount worth getting an extra adapter? Does metabones make a speedbooster for PL-E mount?

For me, I would only get zooms in Canon mount. I would get: Tokina 11-16 f2.8, Canon 24-105 f4 (if you have Speed Booster which makes it an f2.80, Canon 70-200 IS f2.8 II. The Canon 17-55 f2.8 is a good lens as well, but not as mechanically good as L series. Mine has a bit of creep in the zoom.

I would say get Metabones in standard version and Speed Booster. I have both and I mainly use the standard version (super 35mm FOV) and mainly use the Speed Booster for the 24-105 f4, or when it's super dark and I need an extra stop, or if I want crazy shallow DOF for some reason. Speed Booster is useful for sure, but I just prefer a Super 35mm FOV, especially on set since that's what most cinema people understand.

For primes, I would still get non-electronic mounts since Metabones has been problematic for a number of people, so it's still best to avoid electronic mount when possible. The only affordable cine primes are Samyang, but I'm not a fan of those as I sold mine. Zeiss ZF Nikon mounts are much better, but not cine primes in that they haven't been de-clicked, don't have a focus ring gear (but you can get Zip-Tie gears which work great) and rotate the wrong way. None of those things bother me though, especially for the image from Zeiss glass. Amazing.

What I do for my Zeiss ZF Nikon mount is get a Fotodiox Pro Nikon to EOS adapter for each lens, then I just use put those lenses on top of the Metabones. Much faster than switching a bunch of adapters and works well. I can get infinity focus on all my manual lenses.
