Nikon film

Honestly this film was very poor.....

How can you be a director and pick such poor actors? Horrible script and most importantly beyond FAKE.

So they are driving in some huge area and a deer jumps out into the middle of the road and then this massive wreckage happens..... You have to be kidding me, this story could have been writing by someone in elementary.

Now onto the DP side of things. very poor choice in shaking the camera that way, on a such a smooth road that makes NO SENSE. Also such weird awkward angles...

Now where I couldn't believe it was in the audio department. Who the heck chose such horrible fake tire screeching and crash sound fx?????? Sound like something out of a cheesy late night movie....
Sorry people this can't be real, almost laughable

You guys are a tough crowd. I just gotta ask. If you didn't know anything about the production of this film (#of crew, budget, that it was going to sundance, etc) Would you all be so damn critical?? Whats so wrong with the images out of this camera these guys shot? Story is stupid, but I liked the imagery. Audio could have been better but I was watching the story, not trying to tear it apart when I viewed it. I didn't mind shaky camera shots. You expect that inside the car don't ya?

DVXuser has become the giant microscope where every detail is scrutinized by....professionals who make movies regularly :-) Take away the sundance, take away the 80 people who worked on this, take away the hyped promotion and all of a sudden it's not a bad short film.

They had a budget and a lot of people on set plus being used as a promotion for the camera, it will be judged on a larger scale....
If you or me were shooting this on a no budget then of course we are not held to the same standard, but to provide my professional opinion here it is...

The actual quality of the video looked fine, I don't think it was amazing or bad just looked good. I also do no feel that they really highlighted the strengths of the camera.

What I find really really off is the audio, those sound fx imo were horrible and brought the production value to ZERO. Even a high school film student would have done better in the sound fx department.... Put some headphones on and pay attention how horrible the audio sounds when the driver loses control and avoids the deer.

My opinion this is not a good promotion for the Camera and the director and crew dropped the ball.

Why doesnt DVX users team up and make a better short for the d800? I bet nikon would pay through the nose... :)

Ive got the camera and the equip. Just need a bunch of deferred pay help ;)

Anyone in the LA area?

Oh yeah, Im sure you guys have all seen this but for anyone that hasn't, here's another nikon d800 short.

I actually like this one, especially the photography aspect of it.
Ive been a nikon guy for a long time. Thats why the D800 is so cool. Now I can finally use my nikon glass for something other than photography, and renting reds ;)

I was pretty excited about the image from the D800 when it came out, but got the greedy notion that it could have had a better s35 crop mode in video, and caved into the internet hype, as well as my own expectations on the camera industry, or maybe little things like the audio controls and focus magnification issues, or the color tint on the lcd. Or maybe it was just the fact that they didn't have a cine-log picture setting to take advantage of that gorgeous sensor. The D800 would've been accepted by the internet/film community on that basis alone. (maybe it was a sony deal on that sensor - 14.4 f('ing)stops and clean shadows???? yes, we've seen the raw images with shadows pushed. delicious. )

Cameras are getting better, and their prices are dropping. So, I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still haven't seen anything that suits my needs perfectly, or that do but don't have the firmware for it (d800-1dx-fs100 etc), but am starting to see perfect compromises of my needs with those of the market. There are definitely tools at all price ranges to make compelling videos for the industry (just not good enough for us hobbyists) - Ooops, excuse me, I am next in line at the milking station. I have to run, my utters are bursting.

Some one else wrote once, 'sure, the perfect camera is always out there, just not with the features or in the body you want.' or something to that effect.

The DX crop mode is Very close to s35.

I like having the option to change between Fx and Dx on the fly
Absolutely. Now with the AA filter for the D800, it looks like a versatile tool, with great results. I never much liked the jaggies on the DX footage I had seen prior. Though, I really wish there were ways that images came straight off the camera the right way.
