How trendy of Nikon to promote D-MOVIE mode, and getting Ashton Kutcher...

So shall we bombard Ashton Kutcher with requests to influence Nikon to give us manual controls and better bitrate then?

Nikon is being rather unintelligent. They are spending all this money on pointless advertising when they could have just listened to us, easily upgraded the firmware to give us manual controls, and then have had a ton of free press in the blog-a-sphere. Much more effective than hiring an ad agency along with a movie star.

Who is in control at Nikon? And how much longer will they be?

Haha anyone got a response from him yet?

I really doubt Nikon will ever give us manual controls for the d90 or d5000.

I started thinking about it the other day, and the best reason I can think of is because they are prosumer models that do not meter with manual lenses.

If liveview told you the iso/shutter or allowed you to control it manually, then basically Nikon had given us a few functions that negated their professional DSLRs.

I have no doubt in my mind that the new d4 or d400 will have higher bitrate, no stairstep, and manual control. Oh well...

According to Nikon’s just released financial data, Nikon sold 820,000 units of digital SLR cameras in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 (April 1, 2008 – June 30, 2008), and expects to ship total of 3.3 million units in the Fiscal year 2009 ending March 2009.

Guys Nikon does pretty good. I would suggest if you can make a better camera build one. The truth is most of the world is not waiting for the camera you want and the other thing the D90 seems to take pretty good video. I hope they improve it too but Nikon is in the business to make cameras and they make the best. If they give indie filmmakers the camera they want we will find out. I hope they do too.

Thanks for the numbers Zim, that's interesting.

That's what RED if for. I'll be going 2/3'' Scarlet as soon as it's released. And I'll still shoot certain projects with my D90 until Nikon releases a Full Frame manual control camera.
