Nikon D750 vs BMCC - 13 stops DR confirmed

I was totally blown away with the D750 video.
I can't believe it has such a hight quality/mbit, really high DR and great image.
Based on my experience with the BMCC I rated it at 13stops and think it would be a great companion to it.

Here is a test I did. I haven't really tried to match them but to my eye it looks like a tiny bit warmer WB in the BMCC should do the trick.

I used the Nikon D750 with a 50mm f1.8 at f4 and the BMCC with a Nikkor 24-120mm f4 at 24/4.
The reason being nothing other than having them at hand.
ISO 800 for the BMCC and 400 for the Nikon.
In the shots I exposed them equally using the variable ND. I left a small amount of blown highlight in each clip.
In post I set my shadows and highlights and the pushed the mids one stop.
Finally I graded with a Fuji LUT.

I'm not so sure about the highlights: most tests you're running have sharply defined highlights (reflections) that are blown out in all cameras; there's no rolloff that can be compared. The one test where there's a rolloff (the dog shot at the end) has the Nikon showing a lot more highlight clipping than the BM 2.5K, but maybe it has more headroom in the shadows, no way to tell here.

My method for testing DR is to do an exposure ramp: get somebody in front of the camera, expose the image correctly in all cameras, then record it while you change the shutter speed or the aperture, going from maybe 4-stops-overexposed to 4-stops-underexposed. Then you can see at which point the image from each camera broke down on either side.

The dog shot was the only one where I wanted to look at the clipping. In the others there is suposed to be cliping to make sure they are equally exposed. But I was testing the shadows.

Either way, on my screen they have the same amount of clipping in the dog shot. But the d750 being full frame shows more of it.

My conclusion is that the d750 will have a tiny bit wider DR in most situations. But can of course not be pushed as much.

(always thought the DR race would be between Sony and Canon in the DSLR race, but now they are behind, who knew..)
