nikon d7000 vs. 7D as second camera

Hi,

I am shooting a documentary on AF100, and need to purchase a second camera to shoot video, but also to take a bunch of stills. Can somebody talk to me about the advantages of the d7000 vs. the 7D for this type of situation. I have primarily nikon manual glass, but I also have a nice EOS mount cinevised vivitar 28mm f2.5. I know the 7D will match well with the AF100, but am wondering about the advantages of the D7000.

Thanks!

Why not use a GH-2 ?

It's the same Micro 4/3 lens mount, and image quality will be close in terms of resolution and detail.

+1

I too thought a GH2 would have been the obvious choice for this.
That way you won't have to buy all new lenses, you can just use the ones you already have :)

I need to take very high quality stills in addition to shooting footage that will match with the AF100. I am putting together a catalogue that will act as an appendix to the doc, and will need the stills for that.
Does the GH-2 take stills?

Those are, without a doubt, some of the best GH2 photos I've ever seen.

And I bring this up because, honestly, I've found GH2 photos to be OK, but not great compared to Nikon and Canon cameras. Those are some great shots, and it proves that great results are possible. I'd still try one out before being sold on it for photos.

Meanwhile, to answer your original question, Nikons are often overlooked for video because their slow rolling shutter causes skewed motion. I believe the d7000 is better than their other cameras, however it hasn't been enough to save Nikon's reputation in the video world (especially since the following D5100 seems to be a step backwards). The d7000 may be an OK option, but there are better options out there if you aren't sold on Nikon. A GH2 or heck, a T2i (especially with Magic Lantern) would be a much wiser investment IMO.

The dynamic range is better on the D7000 than the 7D. Also, the 5DMK II and 7D have just as bad of rolling shutter as the Nikons. The 5D especially. Nikon actually took measures to combat the D7000's rolling shutter problem specifically in their internal processing. From what I've seen the D7000 looks nice.

They're both excellent cameras. The D7000 is less expensive.

yeah. there were some pretty nice photos in there. but nothing thatreally said WOW!
i guess there is just always something "missing" in everything ive seen come out of a gh2. maybe there's something wrong in my head. just my perception.

and some of those photos were dated march 2, 2010. did the camera even exist then?
