Nikon D7000 Hack/firmware

Anyone have any kind of information on any individuals or companies that could viably hack the d7000?

I am extremely interested in the option of unlocking 60fps in 720p and a higher bitrate in 1080p.

I think not only myself but hundreds would be willing to pay for an update.

The D90 never had a firmware update, right? So how could anyone hack it then. But the D7000 will, due to the hot-pixel-issue...

I'd like to think the D90 didn't get a hack simply because it didn't show enough promise as a video camera to make it worth someone's time. Then again, I know nothing about hacking/programming & it could have been something technical.

technical as in no firmware to hack perhaps? it's like trying to pick the lock of a solid stone wall that doesn't have a door. ;-) if they release a full firmware for the d7000 a hack could definitely happen.

Just found out that the D7000 uses the Toshiba TMP19A44FEXBG microcontroller. Now only if I can find the assembly language manual for the Toshiba and figure out a way to open up the 1.01 firmware.

I'm two months away from giving up my Nikon gear, including a brand new D7000, and switching to Canon.

Fingers crossed...

From everything I have seen, I would tell you that apart from frame rate your Nikon D7000 is better than any Canon. I have done part of the route by buying a 7D which is now collecting dust until I get my hand on the Panasonic GH2 (I am a pro photographer so I am a lot invested in Nikon and would cost me too much to switch just for video) which is better than the Canon in every way. The only thing is that the 5d is better in low light and some will say the sensor is a little smaller. The better thing is just to buy a GH2 body ($900) and adapt your Nikon lens on it, you won' t have auto focus but the Canon don't have that in video also. Just go on the gh2 forum and on vimeo. The GH2 is already good and could become even better with the hack or hdmi output.

I am just hoping for histogram or at least exposure meter display in live view with firmware update someday.

I did email Nikon about enabling aperture control in liveview mode, but who knows if they will take it seriously?
I wish we had a Nikon representative here.

Based upon past experience with the D90, I don't think we'll have much luck petitioning Nikon. The D90 was first in the DSLR video game and with a few firmware improvements could have established a big following -- but Nikon never did it.

With that said, the creator of the GH13 firmware hack (Vitaliy) is active here on DVXUser and he implies that D7000 firmware is hackable. We might have some success petitioning him.
