Nikon D500 - DX format UHD shooting at $2K

Kind of surprising nobody else besides Panasonic is getting on the true 4k 4096x2160 band wagon. Since thats a cinema standard and exceptionally easy to do with a crop of the sensor other camera manufacturers should be giving that as an option as well. Plus the 10bit HDMI and HD-SDI output. After all this time the GH4 still has a solid advantage to those who really need true 4k and 10bit.

Light can always be added to a professional shoot. Extra pixels, a wider aspect ratio and bit depth cannot.
^on point!

And they don't do it because each market niche is allotted to a particular brand and model with very little overlap in a particular feature set. It can only be done because every major player in the industry comes from Japan. Had the major Chinese manufacturers seriously jumped into it, the prices would have fallen by a half or more. Even Samsung NX1 blew Canon and Nikon out of the water on specs. Unfortunately for Samsung, it's easy to freeze one company out when its share is minuscule to begin with.

In any case, Nikons Rumors have dug up some interesting bits on D500.

I am happy with where things are at. I know that everything that is new is **** for the price compared to things we already have or can get on ebay if you really need it. I know that market segments are completely blinding to manufacturers and they can do that all they want. Of course no one will take the segment from them. Even red and Arri sit in their place. But it is nice to know that i don't need any of this year's products. They are all rehashing and not really better than an old f3 at the wnd of the day. Better? Sure. Needed? No. I am happy about all of that. Anyone who bought a 5dmk2 and Sony F3 originally can still be near the top of the game making money is incredible! Slow tech is good for business, and fast tech is good for my personal preference. Win win. Who cares. If they want to make products that don't matter? Fine with me. I will sit on old tech and make money.
