The price of this is $7999! Are they serious? The Canon is going to rule this coming year. $8k and no movie mode at all. If they were going to make this cam cost that much they should have put in the 1080p24 that everyone was asking for. I don't even understand. Can someone please tell me some of the major benefits of having the Nikon D3x over the Canon EOS 5D mark II. Maybe all of that scarlet talk that red was boasting about was to compete with the D3X.
It's their ultra professional model, canon has one too. The market for that kind of camera ist not very understanding for stunts like video mode...
In that angle, I have to say that canon shouldn't have a video mode in their professional models either. A 50D with video, ok, that would make more sense. Of course there are not many people on this board who understand how outrageous a video mode is for a stills camera...but we'll use whatever they throw at us.

All this talk of video modes may distract us from the fact that Nikon and Canon are still image acquisition companies, first. The D3x and 1Dmk3 are at the top of the 35mm digital food chain with only digital medium format cameras out performing them. The high price point is targeted at strictly professionals who demand their gear is fault free and sturdy as a rock. It would be to risky for either company to experiment with new features on their top end cameras even though it's tempting to.
For example, if you are on a shoot with the client present and the budget upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, you want your gear to work perfectly. No new 1.0 firmware with features that you most likely will not use. It's the difference between a fast street legal car and a barebones faster then all get out racing vehicle. Reliability and performance is critical.
The 5DMK2 (and D90) makes more sense for this type of cross technology, cheaper parts and broader customer appeal. Maybe when things are found to be useful at this level, they may trickle up.
