Nikon Color Editing Workflow in Premiere CS5 ?

Hi guys,

I'm making some experiments to see what's the best workflow to edit colors and curves in my D7000 video.

So far I tried two different workflows:

- import/edit original files and export (best results)

- convert to DVCPRO HD full quality. import/edit export (same color quality but a bit blurred if compared with above method)

Some people told me that editing h264 directly is not a good choice but so far I did not see any difference actually..

Is there a preferred method to edit nikon's clips and h264 clips in general or editing original files is just fine ?

Thanks

it depends on the level of hardware your working on. lower-end systems have trouble cutting h.264 natively which is why you need an intermediate codec. if your system can handle editing the codec natively - and cs5 is optimized for h.264 - then theres not really a need to use an intermediate codec. as far as color/resolution/quality - your already starting with a compressed and 8bit color space so theres not much you can do in that respect. deeper color space would allow better blending if your compositing or adding effects.
