Nikon and FF gears

Not strictly the right forum but you guys are very knowledgable.

Because i've not been able to track down certain contax zeiss lenses (in decent working order) i'm pondering selling them and switching to Zeiss ZFs as they're pretty freely available.

But obviously nikons focus the other way. I have a lanparte FF and there're various nods to a reversing gear for it, but i've not actually found any concrete information.

What does everyone else do? Just put up with the direction change (might not be me focusing though, so i need to find a generically acceptable solution plus they'll be used with ZA zooms) or use reversing gears or, better still, something i've not thought of...

Do people prefer the canon versions instead? with a metabones adapter? The nice thing about the nikons is that i can adapt them to sony alpha and pop them on the LA-EA2 - less hassle changing lenses that way... Oh why no manual aperture on the Canons Zeiss??? Or why give up the Pentax versions...

thanks in advance
paul

Genus (Superior) and Arri (MFF2) have ff units that can reverse. You can also use Leica R lenses with Leitax adapters in Nikon F or Canon EF mount, plus of course other lenses with a good adapter.

Most people put up with the reverse focus on Nikon. It will definitely confuse an experience focus puller under pressure. If I had Nikons I'd have a second FF unit set in reverse.

Karl, thanks.

I've seen reversing gears from duclos and arri, but i'd rather not have yet another gadget hanging off the rig. Of course i suppose there's no reason why i can't just flip the FF to the other side of the rig, i mean unless i'm being dumb that would reverse the direction, no? But a different FF is possible i guess. Or are there decent FF that swap easily? The red rock blue FF claims this but i've not seen it in action. I'll take a look at the Genus one but arri is out of my price range.

I don't want Leica R because a) they're substantially more expensive and b) they're quite a different look to other zeiss ZA glass i have.

I guess i'm also pondering Zeiss ZE glass if i can find a simple adapter that controls Iris. I've had a run in with metabones before so am slightly nervous about that route, and i really don't like the idea of the bokeh clipping...

thanks
Pual
