Nikon adapter for HD100

Les Bosher, master camera engineer in Wales/U.K., sent me a notice saying he's now producing a Nikon adapter for the HD100! It's 140 UK Pounds, and if it's like Les' other work, it's going to be a solidly-engineered, masterfully crafted device. I had Les do some work on my Konvas 35mm camera, and he really did a fantastic job, so I give him top marks!

Hello Barry,

Dumb question time.

Does this mean that Nikon SLR lenses will attach and give us shallow depth of field etc. like the mini 35 adapter type things?
Guess it'll attach right to the camera body as the lens is removable.

It means Nikon lenses will attach, yes. It has nothing to do with mini35-style depth of field, this is a direct attachment for Nikon lenses.

OK!...but is there the 7.2 multiplication factor (ala Canon's XLs EF adapter) or not? And in this case a nikkor wide-angle or a tele will be always the same, equal as it works@35mm.

And it will be always a better option rather the original Fujinon lens or am I wrong?

Not sure?

Not sure?

 Thanks for the info Barry... I contacted Les by email just before Christmas to ask a few questions about the adapter and he said they could supply us with one right away. While its not a great deal of money, it would be nice to see an example of some footage showing what "real" benefits there would be, or would it end up being something that gets left in the kit box and never gets used?. We have been using the HD101E for a few months now and the CA problem with the stock fuji lens is easily worked around so that would not be a reason for us to fit other glass. While we own a number of nikon lenses (14mm through to approx 300mm) it sounds like these will not have that great an effect on the image? - perhaphs fitting the longer telephoto lenses will give shallow DoF? - think we will wait till we can see some actual pics....:undecided

Longer lenses could contribute a shallower DOF effect, certainly; but the stock JVC lens does quite well at that as well. It goes to almost 90 mm, which is reasonably long.

If you're happy with what you're getting regarding CA and edge-to-edge sharpness and whatnot, then going to the Nikons would avail you little. A Nikon adapter would primarily be for someone who actively wants to use an alternative lens; sounds like you're happy with what you're getting, so you may not be the customer the product is designed for.

It will be always a great tool if it works as expected. Specially to who owns nikon lenses...

...14mm through to approx 300mm?

It sounds like these will have that great DOF effect on the image! Go forward!
