Hi

Since my lovely Nikon 50mm AI 2.8 started to show some oil on the apperture blades I've disassebled it and cleaned it out but it's not totaly clean and it dosen't feel 100% right.
So i started to check out a replacement and found the Nikon 55mm micro 2.8. So I thought that someone here maybe could share their own experiences with this lovely little lens? I am going to use it on an AF100 and a 35mm adapter with HMC151. Sure I will lose a whole stop of light, but it might be worth it, or?

I love my 50mm and that's the one I use the most, so why not get a 55mm that both works as my lens for most of the shots, and gives me a true macro at the same time. That's at least how I'm imagining it to be!

I have a Nikkor 55mm f3.5 micro and its an excellent lens in test and in practice. In fact my AC sometimes prefers it over the newer 60mm f2.8

You need to know that a "micro" lens does have a different "character / look" than a standard lens of comparable focal length..

While you have both ...do a little test for visual comparison purposes and also note how the practical nature of the focus mechanism works on a micro lens. (Long throw as you get close)

Micro lenses are very flat focus plane ( which can be very nice to use for certain "normal" useage some times)

Keep both is what I am suggesting.

Agree with Shooter. The Nikkor Macro is a wonderful lens. You can use it as you described without issues.

I have 55 micro, 50 1.4 and 50 .12

I would suggest the 55 is only really good for macro shooting - nothing wrong with the image - just the focus travel

between infinity and maybe 6ft the focus travel is absolutely minimal - so its very hard to focus compared to a regular 50

Thanks for all the input, guys!

Maybe I'll reconsider my options and strategy. It just felt so nice to be able to have a "2 in 1" lens combo that saves me from a bit from the fiddle of changing lenses on the field. If I find a nice deal on one, I will pick one up and see!
