Nikon 24-120/f4

I would test what it is like to focus manually, I have not used the 24-120 f4.
The most popular nikon lenses are
17-35 f2.8
28-70 f2.8 (older lens)
80-200 f2.8
The reason that these are popular is that they have aperture rings, so you are not reliant on an adaptor to control iris and you can better predict depth of field.
The other obvious reason that f2.8 is good for low light and shallow depth of field.
The other important reason is focus. These lenses seem to be better suited to manual focus than the large range zooms.
The downside is price, but I believe it is better to have one lens that is really going to make your work sing than one that may feel like a compromise.
But like I said earlier, I have not tested the 24-120 so check it out and compare to say the 17-35 f2.8 as a good all rounder.
cheers

I have used the nikon 17-35 which is great but usually use a 24-70 canon/2.8 for interviews which I tend to stop down for a little more dof and I'd like just a little more telephoto so was looking at something like the 24-120 f4.

Thanks for the info!

Canon's 24-105/4 is my favorite lens for interviews in controlled light, & I'd love the extra reach of a 24-120.
That's what my thought was. Just would like the flexibility to get the subject a little further from the camera, more for their comfort, but also to get a little more variety in framing. I think ill rent first to try it out. Thanks for the info!
