Nikkor 50mm 1.4

The Ebay lens is a manual lens, which is better for a 35mm adapter. The new lens is an auto lens, not as good on the adapters. I'd go with the older one.

Yeah, the shorter focus throw on the AF lenses makes accurate focus pulls a little harder than with the older manual lenses.

Great lens. According to serial number this was made circa 1972: http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html#top

I like it for it's coatings, speed, and bokeh. Lends a nice organic 70's vibe when linked to a Redrock:

Won't compare to a modern Zeiss but if you embrace what the lens has to offer I think you'll be pleased.

The were THOUSANDS of these lenses made. I got mine from the original owner on ebay for less that $70 a few months ago.

Yep.

Taking that particular look a few steps further, Vincent Gallo used some old Bausch & Lomb Super Baltar lenses lenses to shoot The Brown Bunny with which gave the footage a soft, dreamy look and allowed for some nice lens flares that you just cannot get with modern lenses.
