you're using your first and only post for a sale? can we get some pics of the actual items? thanks

Not to sabotage what you're doing ET, but in case anybody is interested.... Costco has the 600gig Maxtor for $285 after a $50 rebate and the 1TB for $450 (no rebate).

Just looking out for my peeps. :)

Yeah, I figured I would catch some heat for trying to sell on a first post. I run a web site and know how much it bugs me when people do that.

Good looking out; those prices at costco are right on the money. Thanks for letting me and everyone else know. You can still save a bit of money with mine if you pay sales tax to costco in your state.

Of course not everybody will be a member of Costco and then I DID forget about tax, which can be a killer.

Best of luck.

I saw these in CompUSA today for $479 before the $50 rebate. I was considering buying one and the sales guy hinted that I should "check the net for reviews" before purchasiing. Apparently they are hit and miss on reliability. I have a Maxtor 1 Touch drive that got TERRIBLE ratings but has been nothing but flawless... It seems that the people having trouble are using FW800 on a Mac...

i've heard not much but bad things about the one touch Maxtors. I've had three. 2 250gig FW 400's on my Mac's and another that was 120gig ( I think). That one crashed, but I think it was because i kept switching it back and forth between my Mac's and a PC. Over and over again and I think it was formatted for PC. Finally it crapped out. I then reformatted it for PC and it was working fine last month when I sold it with my PC. The other two have never skipped a beat and they were cheap at Costco....even two years ago when i bought them.

So, I know people have problems with them, but they do with just about anything. i always thought LaCie was the way to go, but even those have tons of horror stories.

I would say at the prices these drives are right now, buy two or three and just re-copy everything between at least two drives like I do. Poor-man's raid. I always copy my main folders about twice a day to another drive.

NOTE. I remember back in 1998 when my editor was editing my feature we looked at editing on his Avid, but I couldn't afford it because we needed something ridiculous like 10 gigs, so we went with the old flatbed. He paid $3000 for a 3 gig drive if I remember. That's f'in hilarious. Now, you can get 2tb of FW drives for $1k. Crazy.

Yeah I still have a 9gb drive that cost me $2000. I would be willing to part with it at half price if anyone is interested:dankk2: :crybaby:

Yeah, it seems pretty much everyone on here is set for video storage. I use the 600GB with my MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. I love it.

The couch also doubles as a seamless background for flash photography. But unfortunately its not on sale.

If you are going to make a post like that in here you might want to back it up with some evidence... "one touch turbo" is a different product from "one touch" for those of you interested.

If you do reply, please post up a negative review for me.

HDD failure is not system specific and MOST large post houses are running at least one post room on a PC using an AVID Symphony or the like.
