I found this Gem stashed away in one of the piles of lens boxes I had thrown in storage so long ago - havent checked the serial # but its in amazing condition for such an old lens - Its Pre-AI and I want to see if anyone had any experience using this single coated amber lens for any kind of shooting before I send to be AI converted.

You say "single coated" -- and that implies you've got the SC version.

I have the older S version that I've used on adapters for video with both Canon and Panasonic bodies (used on an adapter with another camera body system -- it mounts perfectly and there's no need for any modifications or conversions -- the problems arise when you try to mount them on newer Nikon bodies).

The S version I've got is magnificent. It's sharp as hell beyond f/2.8 -- micro-four-thirds type sharpness. On a hacked GH2 at f/8 you can't tell it apart from micro-four-thirds lenses. Relative to distortion on 50mm lenses -- it's damn good. Obviously, the focus handling isn't as smooth as AI or AI-S lenses.

So -- I loved the S version. Darn fun lens for video.
