Nightmare Video Shot With Dvx

hey, thanks for sharing. -- not a big fan of techno...

first, the negative (i hate that word):
you might try using 60i for the slow-mo. i realize it was probably planned to use slow-motion during post, either way, just a thought. the lighting was sort of harsh at times, i understand you wanted a dark look... i might suggest shooting for film noire with this one? again, just a thought. -- lastly, it was just too long and unexciting. the music hardly went anywhere, and the video followed suit.

now the positive: the scene in the escalator was awesome! i was totally picturing a zach-braff-garden-state-ish scene. i also loved how you switched camera angles and made cuts that jumped ahead. great ideas. keep it up i liked it!

thanks for the comments ... but if you dont like electronic music you might not like this video sorry i forgot to mention that on the first post. but im glad you liked the escalator scene heheh

hey chris hows it going thanks for the comment.

I agree. In the beginning all those fade to black transitions started to give me a headache. I watched it without sound so maybe it'll be better the second time around but that was my initial impression. I thought your video could also benefit from some different shots as well. Maybe mix it up with some different perspectives like the over the shoulder look, some closeups, and more visuals of the city scape (cars, people, sidewalk, buildings, store fronts, etc.).

It's a good start though, keep it up. I'd love to get a chance to shoot in japan. You're a lucky guy.

Only 3 minutes? I was a bit surprised when it ended. I enjoy it and I can't comment on the concept as I respect the vision you had and the look you were going after. However from the editing position, those really short cuts, most pass undistracting without bothering the eye and some are very distracting looking like an instant channel change in TV and back to the video somehow. Those are around 1:50 to 2:00. One reason is that, ok, they are very short as inserts and second they don't quite fall on the beat. Any insert that is under 13 frames is bad looking. I watched it 3 times to write this. 2nd time it was more pleasing to my eyes. And it's nice that it has been shot out in the city. It gives a pro touch.
Concerning the rythmic fades at the intro they are good... as I said tuned to the music and you can follow the story.
That's my 2 cents.
