Nightclub scene file

So does anyone have a scene file they specifically use at night clubs? Something to bring out the colors of the lights, perhaps.

I have one to shoot tonight. I'm going to stick with my regular, default files for tonight (It's too late for experimenting), but since I do this a lot I thought I'd ask.

I filmed a concert last night (with my DVX) with a lot of colored lights and strobes: adjust the detail as desired, but i had my Master Ped @ -3, and my Chroma Level at -3. Everything else was 0 and cinelike gamma, matrix was normal. Those were for the DVX, don't know about the HMC but at least that would be a good starting point.

Usually 1080 30P or 24P
Cine D
Cine Matrix

Depends on the lighting setup but:

Detail -2
Vdetail -2
Coring +2

Master ped. I usually leave at 0 but sometimes lower it. Depends on the lighting.

I shot a rock concert in a club with smokescreen, lasers and all the different strobing colors you can never imagine.

- I sticked to F1 Standard Settings
- 720 50/60p video look preferred
- DRS OFF (It's better to NOT suppress the shadows IMHO) The video noise doesn't bother me that much since the focus of my subjects (moving lights & people) changes color with the lasers and lights most of the time. Anything dark is considered an insignificant background. (Usually video noise that won't kill my eyes)
- Indoor noisy shoots can be crazy most of the time so I'd rather play it safe, focus on the audio meter and shoot on Auto as much as possible.

HMC shines in AVCHD compression for these kind of dark indoor shoots IMHO. Loop filter technology that prevents the propagation of compression distortion seems to work.

And yeah... don't forget to Pan gently and imagine that you are a camera stabilizer whenever u move about in the crowd. :)

Also, make sure you Black Balance the cam every time you power on! I found this out the hard way. Noisy blacks!

If you are not shooting cine gamma then I would change the knee to low or mid. Helps minimize blown highlights without effecting the blacks as DRS would. (You can't change the knee with cine gamma).
