Hello everyone,

I'm shooting a promo video at night downtown Toronto so there is a decent amount of light, but i'm wondering what the best settings are for night shooting with the hvx?

thanks

Jeff

Just make sure that you use as little gain as possible. I prefer to shoot with none at all. You'll probably be shooting with your iris completely open. If I'm telling you things you already know, I apologize, just going over the basics. Go into your menu and set gain off completely if you haven't already done so. Turn off all auto modes.

If you can, try and get an external monitor so you can adjust the settings and see which one provides the least amount of noise. B-Press or Cinelook D gamma modes would be best for low light. You can always give it more contrast in post.

If you have enough room on your P2 cards, get some takes with the gain turned off, and then try a few with a little bit on. Doesn't hurt to experiment a little first hand.

Good luck!

Another night tip, if your in 720pn mode, and you want to get a good stationary shot, you can drop the shutter down to 1/12. I did this while shooting a timelapse of the moon and sky. Since nothing was moving too fast it gave me the extra exposure I needed!

Jeff, when are you shooting it? Depending on scheduling, if you're interested in having another HVX on hand, let me know cuz I might be available, and I'd be happy to participate. :)
